Terrific Places for Tidepooling

A fun activity for young and old alike that combines science with pleasure, studying and appreciating marine life in tide pools is a quintessential Mendocino activity.

1.
Bowling Ball Beach

This unique beach, just south of Point Arena, is famous for the way in which the tide system has created almost perfectly spherical rocks, giving the location its name. Also check out the striated sandstone cliffs and, at low tide, the tide pools.

MacKerricher State Park

North of Fort Bragg, this breathtaking state park is home to some of the best tidepooling opportunities on the Mendocino Coast. Take the boardwalk to Laguna Point and head downstairs!

3.
Glass Beach

Famous for its smooth, rounded glass pebbles, Glass Beach is also a great place to go tidepooling. On the north end is a particularly large tide pool, like a small marine pond.
