Located in the still-active fishing harbor of Fort Bragg, The Wharf connects visitors to the town’s past as a fishing-and-logging mecca but with an updated, modern twist. Look out over the ocean where your meal came from.

For a truly unique seafood experience, try Princess Seafood, named after the 42-foot Seamaster hull that catches the fish you are about to eat, and captained and staffed entirely by women. Princess Seafood is a market, deli, and restaurant, and features live music on weekends.

For a more relaxed, low-key bite, try this rugged-but-right local favorite, where you can relax with an ice-cold, locally-brewed beer, enjoy some fish and chips, and watch the fishing boats sail in and out of the harbor.

Word to the wise: don’t sleep on Mendocino’s South Coast, also known as its banana belt for the unseasonably sunny weather. In the little town of Gualala – as for pronunciation, opinions differ – this is a great casual stop for a local rockfish burrito or a crab Louie salad.
